Characterised by its trademark orange roof and mascot bear—Rooty, it’s almost impossible to miss the famous fast-food chain, A&W. With a diverse menu that ranges from burgers to Coney dogs to waffles, and of course, root beer, A&W has attained avid fans all across Malaysia.
The history of A&W can be traced back to June 1919, where the A&W restaurant business was set up at Pine Street Lodi, California by Frank Wright and Roy Allen. Taking the initials of the two founders’ surnames, the name A&W that we’re all familiar with had been created.
Opening its first outlet in Malaysia in 1963, A&W has since become the go-to for a thirst-quenching glass of root beer. Despite the news of the iconic PJ branch’s closure, A&W does not have any intention of falling out of competition with its other contenders such as McDonald’s and KFC, as it plans to expand its branches further.
Ways to Order A&W
Despite being one of the oldest standing fast-food chains in Malaysia, its delivery service had only debuted recently in the year 2018. As more and more restaurants begin offering online delivery service, it was about time A&W got on the trend too.
With delivery services provided through third-party delivery platforms such as foodpanda and GrabFood, it can get confusing if you are not used to ordering A&W online. To help you with that, we have compiled all the available platforms with tips that will hopefully allow you to navigate through your ordering process more efficiently.
1. Delivery services
Although enjoying a hot meal handed over the counter is ideal, it is not always convenient to drive all the way to the nearest A&W outlet. Thankfully, similar to other fast-food chains, A&W does offer delivery services as well.
Not offering delivery services from its official website, A&W is partnered with several third-party delivery platforms, such as foodpanda, and GrabFood. For each delivery platform, they provide different types of promotions and offers. Some notable promotions that are currently available in the case of GrabFood are their free delivery for any A&W orders. For the instance of foodpanda, they are now offering a 15% discount for every online delivery order. These could be factors for you to consider when deciding which platform to order your favourite A&W meal.
If you have noticed, we did not include the very first delivery platform that A&W partnered with: honestbee. This absence is due to their declaration, which they have posted up on the 22nd July 2019. They have announced that they are suspending their business until further notice. To date, there is no news that honestbee is back on its feet. Hence, it is safe to say that they are no longer providing delivery services for A&W either.
Besides these big-name delivery platforms, A&W also partners with the food and parcel delivery service: Bungkusit. To order delivery from this platform, ensure that your house is within 25 to 30 kilometres from the outlet. This relatively new option of delivery is available through its app. You can download the app from either Google Play Store or App Store.
2. A&W Takeaway Service
For those who prefer to eat at home, takeaway is also another alternative option. With this function available from foodpanda, it is perfect for those who want to cut some cost. Not only does it reduce the delivery fee, it also offers a 15% discount off your order. This is a pretty sweet deal when you think about it.
